One of the most frequent saddle repair questions we see on social media is about lost top plates for the popular Quick Change Stirrup Adjuster fittings. (See below one that has been in action for a while)

This light weight 2-piece fitting is an economical, easy to use but long-lasting stirrup leather buckle solution. Made from stainless steel, they resist corrosion and are cheaper than the traditional Blevins buckles. However, they unfortunately don’t come with instructions and the top plate can come adrift from the base plate and become lost for ever in the scrub. (See how easily the plate gets knocked side ways)

Luckily there is a very simple solution to the problem. (See below) Just feed the leather lace ends through the stirrup leather hole below and pull down firmly. Problem solved, money saved and possibly an accident prevented.
